The world’s thinnest external hard drive was announced by Buffalo Tech. Dubbed the Shinobi portable hard drive, this drive is a mere 5mm (0.2 inches) in thickness and weighs in at just 2 oz. Although small and light, the Shinobi drive is packed with features including backup and sync software, mobile applications such as Firefox and Thunderbird for mobile internet access, as well as the patented SecureLockMobile, a feature that restricts access to the contents of the drive should it be lost or stolen. Transfer speeds are anticipated to be 20% faster then standard currently available drives due to TurboUSB technology.

The drives will be available in October and will be offered as either 30GB (HD-PT30U2) for $119.99 US or $169.99 for the 60GB (HD-PT60U2). The drives are MAC and PC compatible and are an ideal solution for those interested in a lightweight, portable solution for housing data.
