Customers have a variety of options when it comes to set-top boxes with each having its own feature set. At their hearts however, these boxes allow customers to stream digital content from a variety of services such as YouTube as well as Netflix.
Boxee TV is one example of such a device and today, we’re hearing that the company has managed to come to a major agreement with one of the big box stores. As of November, there will be 3,000 US Walmart locations that will begin selling these devices which start at a base price of $98. Not only will Walmart be selling these devices, but there is also confirmation that the company plans on pushing these devices in a big way with a major promotional campaign which will consist of in-store displays as well as other marketing material.
The Boxee TV devices that Walmart will carry will be available in black and each will include a remote control. Through these specific devices, customers will be able to access the usual Internet content as well as view free over the air high definition broadcast channels. The devices also include a pair of tuners which allows customers the flexibility of watching one channel while recording another.
On the topic of recording TV, these boxes do not have any internal storage so all video recordings are saved in the cloud. This will allow users to access their saved content on any connected device. The ability to record TV in the cloud comes with a monthly charge of $14.99 but you will receive unlimited storage space.
