Up until now, Boxee has been a piece of open source software that could be installed on a desktop PC, AppleTV, iphone or whatever your heart desires. Boxee was meant to offer simple digital streaming.

It looks like D-Link and Boxee have gotten together to create a permanent home for the digital video player. Known as the Boxee Box, the unit has been designed by Astro Studios and looks like a cube that is sinking through a tabletop.

The Boxee Box will retail in Q2 2010 for $200 with full hardware specifications being announced at CES. What we do know about it is that it will include an HDMI connector for video out as well as composite and optical digital audio. Additionally, network connections will be through an Ethernet port while two USB ports and an SD card slot will be available for data storage or transfer.
