Nokia, the world’s largest mobile device maker, will be joining the ranks of other netbook manufacturers by designing their own netbook or what they call “mini-laptops”. The announcement of the Booklet 3G wasn’t really a surprise as the Nokia CEO had shown an “interest” in this market several months earlier.
The new netbook is stylish like the Apple notebook, but is designed on the Windows platform. Features of the Booklet 3G include an Intel Atom processor, a 10.1-inch HD display screen, a webcam, Bluetooth, 12 hour battery life and an SD card reader. The unit weighs 1.25 pounds and includes a variety of network connectivity options such as 3G/HSPA and WiFi.
Users of the new netbook will also gain access to some cloud computing features through Nokia’s Ovi Suite, their application and content store.
The Finnish phone maker has not announced any details regarding pricing or availability but it is expected that this information will be made available at Nokia World on September 2.
