Cats are a curious lot, always wanting to check out new things and in the process, getting themselves into trouble or just creating trouble for their owner. One person decided he had enough and from this simple challenge of how to keep your cat off the counter, his project Blender Defender was born.
Blender Defender consists of a strobe light, blender, networked camera and a pc running linux. When his cat jumps on the counter top, the linux pc detects motion through the camera and turns both the blender and strobe light on for 3 seconds and then sends a second command to turn it off.
The Blender Defender is a cat’s worst nightmare, causing the cat to jump off of the counter. The designer has taken it a step further by having the pc email him a link to the captured video so that he can see it on his phone, regardless of where he may be located.
