The Research In Motion’s Blackberry Tour 9630 is a popular consumer electronic device, but unfortunately it is making news for the wrong reasons. According to a report from ComputerWorld, the QWERTY smartphone is seeing a return rate as high as 50%.
The most common causes of return for these handheld device has been a problem with trackball sensitivity as significant scrolling resulted in the most minimal of movement. According to Gerard Hallaren, research director at TownHall Investment Research, Tour owners will need to clean the trackball regularly and “preferably with compressed air.” He also acknowledges that “not surprisingly, most customers prefer not to,” which makes total sense considering this is your investment.
Both Sprint and Verizon launched the Tour on July 12th for $199.99 with a two year service contract. Neither Verizon nor RIM were available for comment on this issue but Sprint did advise that they were working with their service partner to find a resolution.
