If you have an Android phone, there is a new security app for you to consider. Known as BioLock, this Android app has been developed by Blue Planet Apps and includes support for both facial recognition and iris scanning as methods of unlocking your phone.

In order for BioLock to make use of the facial recognition technology, it does require the use of the integrated camera that would be on the smartphone and ideally, it would work best with a front facing camera like the one found on the HTC Evo 4G. Apparently, the developer claims that the technology that powers this software is intelligent enough that it would be able to recognize the legitimate owner of the phone and provide access to the phone, whereas it would restrict access to a thief who simply holds a picture of the true owner in front of the phone.

BioLock will be available in beta form within a few weeks, after which it will go on sale for around $2.99.
