A recent comment from Tim Cook, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) COO has confirmed that plans call for the Apple iPad to be available at Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) as well as other Apple partner retailers. The sales plan expects to see a short honeymoon period where the sale of the Apple iPad will be restricted to Apple’s online store. This will allow them time to shore up their sales process as well as allow Apple fans time to familiarize themselves with the new Apple product.
Once the honeymoon is over and the marketing campaigns are in full swing, Best Buy will begin to carry the iPad, which really shouldn’t be much of a surprise, after all, they do carry other Apple products.
It’s not clear at this time if Best Buy will be required to maintain a specific sale price or if they will have some discretion available to them. It’s also not known if the iPad will be sold by itself or if Best Buy will try and entice customers by bundling iPad accessories such as a free case.
