It has become a sign of the times that mobile customers are in search of services that offer digital TV streaming on their handheld devices. With that in mind, Bell Mobility has announced their new Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone application called Mobile TV. The application which is available for download through the iTunes Canada website offers Bell Mobility customers the opportunity of enjoying live TV programming.

The TV channel offerings consist of CBC, CTV, Muchmusic, Treehouse, TSN, SportsNet, Live NHL hockey and the Weather Network to name just a few.

The application is a free download and is available in both English and French. It is worth noting that anyone can download the application. However, the mobile TV service will only work with the Bell 3G network or put another way, it will only work for Bell customers. If you happen to not be a Bell subscriber, you will be granted access to the free preview category. Additionally, as this application uses the 3G network, it has been designed to work with the Apple iPhone and the minimum requirements are iPhone OS 3.0 or greater. Sorry, but iPod Touch users are out of luck.

Finally, accessing Mobile TV requires that WiFi be turned off. The service costs $8 in monthly fees plus data charges which if you’re not careful can really add up.
