Bell Canada Palm Pre Phone

Bell Mobility, a Canadian telecommunications company has confirmed that they will drop the introductory price on the Palm [NSDQ: PALM] Pre to $99.95 CAD provided you sign a three year voice and data plan contract with them. When the Palm Pre first launched, it retailed for $199.99 but has quickly seen two deep discounts, one right after the other.

If you’ve been holding off on picking up a webOS powered smartphone, this might be the time to take advantage of the good deal available, provided you can stomach the service contract. One may question why Bell Mobility has offered deep discounts on the smartphone and there are a couple of things that come into play.

First is the chance that Bell may have a surplus inventory of devices on hand that they wish to move, but the more likely reason is the fact that Bell is moving from a CDMA based network to a GSM network and along with this transition, Bell will introduce the 8GB Apple Iphone 3G that will sell for $99 with a 3 year contract.

Hmm discounting the palm pre in preparation of the iPhone? Guess they already know which one will sell more.

No doubt, Apple’s a hot commodity these days.
