There was a time when networking computers was rather complicated, something left for the realm of the geeks or those with a computer science degree, but these days, setting up a home network is an out of the box solution and is so straightforward that you could probably do away with the “home networking for dummies” book.

For a while there, network speeds did not improve all that much and were definitely not in line with the rate of change seen with computer processor speeds or any of the other major pc components.

Today, Belkin announced the availability of the Gigabit Powerline Adapters. Powered by GGL541 home networking chips, these Belkin adapters offer consumers the opportunity of creating high speed networks to support HD streaming, large file transfers and network gaming.

Priced at $150, the HD starter kit makes use of the home’s electrical wiring to offer network speeds comparable to wired networks, but using a wireless connection.
