Belkin Illuminated USB Cables

Sometimes it’s just the simplest changes that makes the world of difference. Way back in the day, PCs were quite bland, there was no coloring to identify the ports on the back of the pc. You’d be lucky if the back of the pc had pictures of where to plug the ps2 mouse and ps2 keyboard in. I can remember the calls I used to get from people who struggled with simple tasks such as these.

If I was getting these types of calls, you can only imagine the help desk calls some of the large pc manufacturers were getting which were probably along the same line as what I mentioned above. Obviously, the large corporations were listening to their consumers, and soon we saw workstations that came with color coded ps2 cables and pc ports, which made it quite a bit easier for consumers to plug in their peripherals.

Fast forward to today and we’re seeing a lot of peripherals that are USB based, which is great as it makes things just that much easier for consumers. However, it would be nice if they kept the tradition of color coding the ends so that should a consumer need to disconnect something, they only need to locate the color coded usb end for their peripheral.

Belkin has done just that with their illuminated Male USB A-B cables which are typically used to connect printers to workstations. These simple changes just continue to make things easier for the average Joe who really wants to spend time working on this email, spreadsheets, or just playing games, rather then having to fiddle with cables.
