The BBC will launch the iPlayer 3, a catch-up TV service, for the Playstation 3 some time this year. The information was made available by way of Simon Cross, a BBC web developer who spoke to TechRadar at the Facebook Developer Garage which recently took place in London, England.
Along with confirming the arrival of the new iPlayer, Cross briefly spoke about new functionality that will be introduced including greater emphasis on social networking, thereby allowing users to share and recommend shows to their followers. For the past 23 days, a beta copy of the new iPlayer has been available for beta testers and so far, developers have been happy with the acceptance rates with stats showing that 8% of the users have migrated to the beta version and of those, 10% are actively using the new social features.
