Barnes Noble E Book Reader

Barnes & Noble recently dropped a bombshell on the e-book scene when photos and details of an e-reader made it to the media last Wednesday, a sort of preemptive teaser to next week’s press conference. And with what we’re seeing so far, it seems the new e-reader has what it takes to make the guys at Apple scratch their heads and wonder why they don’t have their own e-reader out yet.

The Barnes & Noble e-reader, if the details are right, offers a sort of middle ground between the Amazon Kindle and the rumored Apple e-reader, which will come out early next year. The Kindle e-ink display is nice on the eyes and saves battery life, but navigation can be a hassle. The Apple iPhone, on the other hand, navigates pretty well – but can be pretty hard on the eyes when it comes to reading.

The B&N e-reader has a 6-inch main display that has e-ink-like capabilities, but also has an LCD screen that helps with navigation – and hides to devote more space for reading when not in use. Should be pretty interesting, considering the e-reader will supposedly come at only half the price of the Kindle. Of course, you’ll expect the books in its library to be a bit more expensive.
