The first $1000 Apple iPhone application to make its way to the iTunes App store was called “I Am Rich”. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s probably because this application really didn’t do anything except show a glowing red gem and Apple quickly removed it from the available list of approved software items.
There is now a new application available on iTunes that is selling for $1000 or more precisely, $999.99. The application is called BarMax and it is being touted as “the only complete bar exam prep solution (Essay, MBE, Performance Test and Flash Cards) available for purchase in the iPhone App Store.”
Is this application worth $1000? According to TechCrunch, the price is justified. The reason being that BarBri offers similar test prep material for $3000-$4000. The reason that BarMax is able to offer discounted software is because there are no class lectures.
You may be wondering by now, what exactly does $1000 get you? The BarMax is test prep software specifically designed for California law students preparing to take the Bar exam. The application includes 1GB of study material including thousands of text pages and hundreds of hours of audio lectures. If the idea of studying on your iPhone doesn’t sound very appealing, you can also write to the company who will send you an electronic copy of the study material in Microsoft Word format.
Currently, BarMax is only focused on those studying for the California bar, but the firm plans on expanding their product to support students in other parts of the country including New York. By the end of 2010, support should be in place for six US states.
