August: Samsung Galaxy S III Passes iPhone 4S As Top Seller

The iPhone has always been a best seller within the mobile market, but in the last few months, Apple has seen iPhone 4S sales stall to some degree and this in turn has resulted in Samsung being able to gain ground on the Cupertino company.

As we move into September and look back, we now have some details on just how sales went last month. Regardless of what the exact numbers are, simply from a standpoint of company morale, August was good for Samsung as their flagship phone, the Android powered Samsung Galaxy S III became the top selling smartphone within the United States. In doing so, the Galaxy S III surpassed the iPhone 4S. Now, on the surface, this has to look great, but perhaps there is an asterisk to this story?

This morning, Apple sent out invitations for their upcoming event that will take place on September 12th. At this event, Apple is expected to launch their next iPhone which will be the iPhone 5. We heard this over the summer and we’re hearing this again, part of the reason why sales for Apple’s iPhone have been slow is because customers are waiting for the next iPhone and it’s announcement is just over a week away now. The rest of this year is very likely going to belong to Apple and any ground that they may have lost to the competition is likely to be made up as consumers clamor to pick up the iPhone 5.
