ASUS Unveils DR-900 E-Reader

Just yesterday, ASUS revealed its first ever e-book reader — the DR-900. The new e-reader headlined their CeBIT introductions in a sleek fashion, offering a pencil-thin, 9-inch touchscreen display and a minimalist few buttons on the side. And it’s going to be more than just an e-reader, too.

The 9-inch touchscreen display will offer a native resolution of 1024x768p, which should be enough for novels, news, and certain apps that most other e-readers hasn’t thought of supporting. Another of its bigger draws is its networking capabilities — it has Wi-Fi and 3G (optional) support for downloads.

The battery is also worth noting — it can last for 10,000 page turns (or 20 novels) on a single charge with wireless off. And while its built-in storage is only 2 to 4GB worth, it has an SD card slot to give users more room. Oh, and you’ll probably like having the headphone jack around.

Our biggest gripes about the DR-900 is that it seems to be built for right-handed people (the buttons are on the right and bottom-right edges). We also don’t know much yet about the pricing and availability, but we do know that most ASUS products make it to the US anyway, and with the iPad glaring down at all its little competitors, it’s also likely it’ll be priced low for its feature set.
