ASUS Eee Pad Rumored With Tegra And Multi-Touch

Nvidia Tegra Asus Eee Pad

Rumors are going wild about ASUS’s much-awaited, yet much-speculated, Eee Pad tablet. A leak has suggested that it will be using an NVIDIA Tegra chipset, possibly the next-generation one. This could mean the rumored 4-to-7-inch tablet can support 720p HD — and even possibly up to 1080p HD if top-of-the-line NVIDIA hardware is going to be used.

What’s more, there’s also news that the Eee Pad tablet is going to have multi-touch support. Aside from being obvious good news for fans of multi-touch, it also means that the tablet won’t be running on any Windows OS platform. Windows 7 DOES support multi-touch, but unfortunately has to be ruled out because it doesn’t support Tegra — or any other ARM processor, for that matter.

Instead, it’s rumored that the Eee Pad tablet is going to run on Android 2.x instead, as it doesn’t have a problem supporting multi-touch on newer processors.

These changes all sounds great, but they do come with its own share of bad news — ASUS probably won’t be shipping the tablet within the first quarter of 2010. It seems the upgrades understandably will take some time to put in place.
