Armatix Pistol Uses Wristwatch As Safety Mechanism

At the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show, which by the way abbreviates to SHOT, the German pistol maker Armatix, debuted their Armatix pistol, a type of smartgun that uses wireless technology to introduce a new level of gun safety.

Armatix 22 Pistol

The Armatix pistol comes with a wristwatch that the user must wear. When the .22-caliber pistol is within just a few inches of the wristwatch, it receives a wireless arming signal that allows the gun to fire. This scenario is made readily clear to the shooter who can visually see the green LED light located at the back of the gun.

In the event that the gun is in the hands of someone who is not wearing the wristwatch, the pistol will not fire and will display a red LED light on the back of the firearm. This high tech weapon will be released next month as a limited edition for $9,700.

Apparently, Armatix also has a pistol available that not only requires the wristwatch for arming, but to ensure that the wristwatch does not get into the wrong hands, resulting in an armed weapon, the wristwatch also must be paired with a single set of fingerprints, the rightful gun owners print.

This type of weapons technology could be very useful in law enforcement and could prevent the discharge of the weapon by a criminal during a struggle for the gun.
