The Apple Tablet could be here by the spring of 2010, at least according to Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner. Although Apple executives have been quiet on this latest Apple rumor, it’s believed that Apple will need a 5-6 week lead up window to build their inventory before product release.
The Apple tablet computer will be a cross between a notebook and an iPhone/iPod Touch. The unit will most likely come with a 10.1-inch touch sensitive LCD screen display as opposed to an OLED display.
Book publishers seem to be getting a sweet deal in all of this as well as Apple has approached publishers with a revenue split model of 70/30 with 70% of the revenue going to the publisher. In addition, Apple is not looking for exclusivity. Compare this to Amazon where the split for their Kindle book reader is 50/50 unless an exclusive contract is signed in which case, 70% of the revenue goes to the publisher.
It’s expected that the retail price for the Apple Tablet will be about $1000 with 1-1.5 million units being sold per quarter.
