Today was a big day for Apple when executives for the company took centre stage at a media event that they held in California. There were a number of big announcements that came out of today’s event, but putting aside the new products that were released, Apple took some time to share some of their successes.
The tablet industry as a whole has boomed in the last few years and today, we have tablets by all different manufacturers and tablets that come in all shapes and sizes. The iPad has sat comfortably at the top of this heap, but its hard to believe that the first iPad only came on the market just two and a half years ago. It’s pretty amazing to hear just how young the iOS tablet is, yet in its short existence, nearly 100 million units have been sold and we know that this number is only going to go up significantly as a result of today’s news.
With Apple’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, highlighting this information, one of the things that he found “rewarding” was just how well received the iPad is within educational settings. The iPad has managed to develop a niche in this environment by taking a simple point and touch approach to technology, making it easy for kids and adults to use. Aside from the number of tablets that have been sold, another measure of the success of the iPad can be seen by its share of web traffic that is generated and this number comes in at 91%.
