Its official, Apple has confirmed that Snow Leopard, their largest operating system update since “Classic” OS 2001 will ship on Friday, August 28th. It was believed for some time that the latest version of the Mac OS X operating system would ship earlier then expected due to a series of “technical issues” observed at the Apple website.
Some of the new features of the new Apple OS include integrated Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 support, a new Quicktime X and system applications designed for 64-bit processors. Mac users are expected to observe a noticeable speed difference, especially when shutting down which will be 75% faster and returning from sleep mode which will be twice as fast.
Snow Leopard will cost $29 to upgrade from Leopard and a family pack consisting of 5 individual licenses will retail for $49. If you currently use OS X Tiger, the upgrade will cost $169 for a single license or $229 for a family pack.
The minimum requirements for Mac OS X Snow Leopard are an IBM Intel processor, 1GB RAM and 5GB free disk space.
