Rumors are circulating that Apple is updating their iPod MP3 players and that an official announcement will be made on September 9th confirming the hard-drive-based iPod Classic will be receiving a 3.2 megapixel digital camera upgrade.
We would have thought that the iPod Classic, first introduced in 2007 would be retired considering how cheap flash memory is these days but instead, it will join ranks of the iPod Touch and iPod Nano in receiving this upgrade. The timing of the Apple special event couldn’t be better as it ties in well with the back to school sales.
DigiTimes has reported that OmniVision will be the sole provider of 3.2 megapixel CMOS image sensors (CIS) and is expected to ship some 18 million CIS products to Apple each quarter.
