Apple iPad Ad During Academy Awards

Apple iPad Ad During Academy Awards

There are certain events during the year that garner a large viewing audience and if you have a product launch or message that you want to ensure reaches the largest number of eyeballs and you have deep pockets, these are the golden opportunities.

Google did this with their Parisian Love ad that aired during the Superbowl last month. This month, it’s Apple’s turn using the 2010 Academy Awards as their center stage.

Apple’s new ad about the iPad was seen just after the Disney/Pixar animated film “Up” was recognized with the Best Animated Film award. In the 30 second ad spot that aired to the background music of The Blue Van – There Goes My Love, Apple confirmed the April 3rd US launch date to which we can add that pre-orders for the WiFi version will start on March 12th (US again) with the 3G version will be available later in April.

It was a typical Apple ad, similar in pattern to what we’ve seen the company use in the past with success when they launched their iPod product line. The ad was simple, using no verbal sales pitch, but rather just showed a person using the iPad, demonstrating some of its features while music played in the background.
