The above 3 images portray the winning goal by Andreas “Andi” Herzog for Austria in 1997 World Cup game against Sweden. The Austrian post office has captured this moment in the form of a 3 second animated clip using a process known as lenticular printing.
Lenticular printing is not new, it’s been around for some time now, but with advances in technology, the process has been refined and improved. Most can probably remember a day when you would open a cereal box to find a card which depending upon the angle you held it at, would cause the image on the card to move. That is an example of rudimentary lenticular printing. At that time, 2 or 3 images would be interlaced together to create a jerky image.
Fast forward to 2008. For this commemorative stamp, the Austrian post office has interlaced 48 images, creating a very smooth effect.
There will be lots of stamp collectors out there trying to purchase this stamp for their collection.
