The Android Marketplace — also unflatteringly known as “Google’s App Store” — has just recently hit the 20,000 app milestone. While this number pales in comparison to the 100,000 apps in Apple’s App Store, the number is still indicative of massive customer satisfaction with the market platform — although Google isn’t really quick to admit it.
AndroLib, a site that has been keeping a close eye on the Android Market ever since it opened, gives us the numbers that Google won’t — of the 20,000-plus apps now in the Android Market, 62.3% come at no charge. More than 100 apps are added to the marketplace every single day, and 44.6% of all apps have a very satisfactory 5/5 stars rating. (In comparison, only 17% got 1/5.)
The rate that new apps are being submitted is also on the rise, with more than 3,500 new apps making it to the marketplace in November alone. We’re only halfway through December, but we’ve already seen more new apps this month than the whole of July. Looks like Google Android users have a lot of browsing to do during the holiday season.
