Everyone knows the value of display real estate – the bigger your display space, the more applications you can show at the same time and the more freedom you feel. So far it’s becoming easier to put up a second monitor for a PC, but sometimes even two monitors aren’t enough. So why not have six?
AMD is bundling their DirectX 11 cards with a tool called “Eyefinity,” which can let users use up to six displays as a “single large surface.” As long as the combination and arrangement of the multiple displays form a regular rectangle, then you’re good to go.
What’s great about Eyefinity is that it only requires one GPU (for now, although later versions will most likely support more than one), and that it doesn’t require Crossfire.
The biggest potential drawback to the system are the bezels that criss-cross through the display, which can be pretty distracting (if not downright annoying). But this is obviously a much more cost-effective way to get a larger display surface than buying a single, ultra-widescreen display, so it’s definitely worth considering. Besides, AMD is also working with Samsung to create displays with ultra-thin bezels.
If limited display real estate bothers you, then this setup ought to be worth a try.
