Amazon Readies Press Event For September 6th

With the new iPad having come on the market and the sleuth of Android tablets continually being launched, it’s been well known that Amazon would be revising their own tablets to remain competitive. This much was known, but as to just what kinds of updates would be made or when they would announce the devices was not really known.

We still don’t officially know just what the Kindle updates will consist of, but we now have a date of September 6th. This was the date mentioned on an Amazon invitation that was given out for a press conference that the company will hold in Santa Monica, California. Again, we have to reinforce that there were no mentions in this invitation about what the press conference would be about, but the fact that they are holding the event in September would seem to indicate a product update to coincide with the start of fall and the school year. This updates will most likely be for the Kindle line of products and could include both the Kindle e-book reader and the Kindle Fire.

One of the rumors that has been circulating is that Amazon would like to launch a big screen Kindle Fire, one that would compete with the Apple iPad. Currently, the Kindle Fire is on sale in the United States only, but as of the second quarter, the Android tablet has managed to capture a 5% share of the global tablet market.
