Everyone knows motorbikes use up much less fossil fuel than any four-wheeled vehicle, but for some people, getting 100 miles per gallon isn’t fuel-efficient enough. Allert Jacobs is one of those people, and came up with a modification that doubles his Honda ANF125i Innova’s mileage. But, and that’s a big BUT, I think there’s a drawback to the mod.
Jacobs’s modification does let him get 200 miles per gallon on his motorbike (he reduced wind drag by building an aerodynamic shell around it), there’s just one problem — the thing looks like a spaceship. Definitely not the sexiest thing on the road, that’s for sure.
Overall, it’s a great contribution to our collective effort to reduce global warming. But while photovoltaics are now getting into fashion (fancy a sweater that charges your cellphone while you walk around in the sun), Jacobs’ modification may need a little more work.
Maybe if he painted it black instead of white, or rented out the sides for advertising space, it would look more with the times. But that’s just me. Hopefully Honda takes notice of Jacobs’s initiative, so we’ll be seeing better-looking designs that are every bit as fuel-efficient as this mod is.
