Alex eReader Set For Mid-April Delivery

Spring Design has confirmed that pre-orders for the Alex eReader will begin today. The dual screen Google Android powered ebook reader will retail for $399 with US delivery scheduled for mid-April.

The device supports a variety of file formats including EPUB, HTML, TXT and Adobe PDF and as mentioned earlier, will include two display screens. The first screen is a 3.5-inch full color touchscreen display while the second screen is a 6-inch EPD screen. Included with the offering is integrated WiFi support that allows users to browse the web, watch videos as well as communicate with online contacts. As an Android reader, the Alex eReader will also work with Android apps that are downloaded through the marketplace which just today was revealed as having somewhere in the vicinity of 30,000-35,000 free and paid applications.

Additional features include access to both Google’s Bookstore with 1 million titles as well as other online bookstores that support the Adobe DRM. The Alex eReader comes with a padded cover, a 32GB microSD card, weighs about 11 ounces, has measurements of 4.7-inches by 8.9-inches and is about 0.5-inches thick.
