Adobe has released a security advisory, warning the public that a new exploit has been found in their highly popular Adobe reader and Acrobat software. Specifically, Adobe has confirmed that this flaw is found in Adobe Reader 9.3.4 as well as in earlier version that have been developed for the Macintosh, Unix and Windows operating system.
Additionally, Adobe Acrobat 9.3.4 and earlier versions for both Mac and Windows are also prone to the exploit. The potential risks of this vulnerability are that it can cause your computer to freeze up and crash and even more seriously, allow an attacker to take control of an infected system.
Hackers have begun to exploit this vulnerability in the wild, adding some more urgency and pressure on Adobe to release a new patch. Needless to say, it’s important to remain vigilant and open PDF files from trusted sources so as to not be on the receiving end of a booby trapped PDF file.
