Acer Announces First 3D Projector -- The S5200

With a few 3D projectors already on the market, Acer isn’t about to be left behind. The company has recently announced its first 3D video projector, the S5200 which includes a refresh rate of 120Hz. If you’re a loyal Acer user, then you’ll love the idea that you can now turn your living room wall into a 3-D cinema screen.

Of course, like all other 3D projectors, the S5200 will need a PC with a compatible graphics card, as well as some shutter glasses. But that’s not all the S5200 is good for — it’s also capable of short-throw projections, displaying 81-inch pictures a mere meter away from the wall. What’s more, it can work with LAN controllers like Crestron, so you can control it remotely.

The S5200 offers an HDMI port, and its lamp pumps out 3000 ANSI lumens at a 2500:1 contrast ratio. The lamp itself will be good for 4000 hours. Sadly, it’s not a widescreen projector — its native resolution is XGA at 1024x768p. While it’s 4:3 by nature, it can still operate at 16:9 and 1600×1200 — although things can be pretty blurry at that point.

Perhaps the best promise Acer has made about the S5200 is that it won’t be seeing a yellow/green tint as time goes by — a reassuring thought. The Acer S5200 is available today, at a price tag of around US$1019.
