A New Microsoft Corporate Logo After 25 Years

After 25 years of service, Microsoft has decided that it was the right time for them to put their current corporate logo out to pasture in favor of a new one. The timing of the new icon coincides with a busy period for Microsoft, one that will see the Redmond company come out with a variety of new products including their next generation operating system, Windows 8.

With the new logo, Microsoft had an option of going in a completely different direction, but rather then following this path, the company looked to keep some of the design elements from its earlier logo, thereby allowing for better familiarity and recognition amongst its consumer base. Both the old and new logo are presented above with the new 2012 logo located at the top of the picture. As you can see, the design element of the multicoloured Window box remains, but the logo has transitioned away from the wave pattern to a more boxy one. Additionally, the font type has been updated to a sans-serif gray typeface. To go along with the new logo, Microsoft has also created a YouTube video that provides additional details about the design which you can view below.

What do you think of the new logo, is it a nice transition from old to new and do you prefer the 2012 version to their former one?
