When it comes to their Android operating system, it would seem that Google regularly has staggering numbers regarding the number of activated devices. At the Google I/O Conference, this trend remains firmly in place with one of the presenters speaking about the topic of Android activations.
Last year at around this time, the number of Android devices that were activated and in use around the world were 100 million devices. Fast forward one year and today, Google has confirmed that there are now 400 million devices activated. That’s a four fold increase over a period of just one year and takes into account all Android devices, be it tablets, smartphones, etc. Expanding on the state of Android, we’ve also heard now that Google sees one million devices being activated each and every day and this works out to 12 Android products activated per second.
Growth within the developed markets remains steady, but based upon a heat map that was presented to the audience, the emerging markets such as South America, Eastern Europe and Asia are showing high growth rates. As you can expect, Google has every intention of capitalizing on this trend and the launch of cheaper Android phones will go a long way in helping them secure this goal.
