3m announced the availability of the MPro100, a pocket projector that will take output from almost any handheld device, including digital cameras, PSP, iPod and iPhones. Other companies have been promising such technology, but it was 3M who was first to market with their product.

The palm sized projector, is non-threatening in appearance, making it suitable for technophobes. Once connected to a device, the MPro100 is able to project images in 640×480 resolution with a 50 inch diagonal on an appropriate white surface.

Popular Science, who was given a copy of the fanless, speakerless projector for testing, did mention that “Images were discernable up to about 11 inches across, even under our bright fluorescent office lights. But they were definitely faded.”

Although this is the first pocket projector to reach market, you can be sure that other companies will follow this release with interest and will also be working on overtime to fine tune their own projectors for eventual release.

The 3M MPro100 is expected to go on sale on September 30, 2008 with a sticker price of $359.00.
