2TB EcoGreen F3EG Samsung Hard Drive

To meet the storage demands imposed by large media files, both digital video/audio as well as other personal files, hard drive manufacturers have had to develop ever larger hard drives that are capable of retrieving the digital content with the shortest seek time possible.

The Samsung F3EG hard drive is the latest that tries to reach these goals while adding a hint of green to it’s overall design. The new Samsung HDD is a high capacity drive with a total of 2TB of storage space spread over 4 platters, each of 500GB. The HDD supports a 3 Gbps SATA interface and is available with either 16MB or 32MB of buffer memory.

In terms of being environmentally friendly, Samsung confirms that the hard drive is free of hazardous chemicals such as BFRs and halogen compounds and that the drive also meets the strict guidelines of the RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment). The F3EG drives are also said to feature reduced noise and low power consumption with benchmarks indicating that when compared to other brand hard drives, up to 40% less power is used while the drive is idle and up to 10% less power is used during read/writes.

The new Samsung 2TB hard drive will retail for $179.99.
