iVideo Camera Application

Up until recently, the iPhone 3GS was the only iPhone model that let its users record videos and upload them to the Internet. The other iPhone models, 2G and 3G, could only do so when you jailbreak it and install a video recording App. But now, Apple has (finally) approved a video recording application for the App Store. With the iVideoCamera app, any iPhone can now record videos — no jailbreaking required.

The iVideoCamera app works on any iPhone with OS version 3.1 and higher. It lets users save videos and share them via YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, and Twitter — pretty much how iPhone 3GS users do it. But of course, you can’t expect too much from iPhone video recording — the app only lets users shoot 1-minute-ish videos, at a rate of 3fps at 160 x 213 pixel resolution. Not very good by today’s standards, but the app’s developers are insisting they’re working on more improvements and new features.

The acceptance of the $0.99 iVideoCamera app means that Apple may also approve other video recording apps into the App Store soon, including the ones currently used by jailbroken iPhones. When that’ll happen, though, is still anybody’s guess.
