There are several designers out there that will take a device such as an iPad or an iPhone, customize it to the hills with precious metals and other fine materials and then stick a hefty price tag on it. Although these sorts of devices may be out of the price range for most ordinary folks, there is obviously a niche market for them as the devices do seem to sell in limited quantities.
It was in 2011 when Research In Motion came to an agreement with the luxury car maker Porsche to develop the $2,000 P9981 BlackBerry. When the announcement was first made, there were many analysts that rightfully felt that this was more a distraction for a failing company, one that should be more worried about its falling stock price and dwindling market share.
In any regards, RIM continued on with Porsche on the development of this limited edition Blackberry smartphone which launched in Dubai. Now however, it seems that RIM is expanding the market for this luxury phone even further by launching the device within Canada. The device is now available in Toronto, Ontario in a trendy Porsche store that is specifically located in the neighborhood of Yorkville.
For those with a lot of money to burn, this might be something you’ll take a look at, but one thing to keep in mind is that this BlackBerry model will not support BlackBerry 10 OS when it launches later this year.
