Research In Motion has been in the news quite a bit as of late, but for the most part, it’s been for the wrong reasons. Over the last few months, we’ve seen a number of negative reports about RIM come out and this in turn has impacted its stock price.
Apple’s iOS products and Google’s Android products have led the way in the marketplace and when you ask those in the industry as to why this may be the case, one of the items that inevitably comes to the table is the number of third party applications that are available for the respective platforms. The lack of these apps for the BlackBerry is one of the reasons that impacts the average consumer from moving over to RIM products.
Interestingly enough, RIM appears to be paying their developers quite well. In fact, an Evans Data Corp study shows that on average, BlackBerry app developers earn more money then their counterparts who work on Android or iOS apps. At the top of the range, approximately 13% of Blackberry app developers make more then $100,000 each year and this amount is more then what any iOS and Android app developer earns. So why is there such a discrepancy in the amount of money made by BB app developers? It’s believed that one of the reasons behind this may be because their are fewer apps available on BlackBerry which means that apps aren’t as buried compared to the other platforms.
