Tetris Mobile Phone Downloads

If you’re wondering why a fully supported Sega Genesis Emulator for the Apple iPhone was launched yesterday, you only have to look at the headlines that Tetris is making today and realize what a profitable niche mobile game downloads can be for game developers.

Tetris has reached a milestone that no other mobile game can claim. The highly addictive and popular puzzle game lays claim to being the first mobile game with 100 million downloads. The popularity and success of this video game has not been limited to just the mobile market as the game, which was developed back in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov has been ported to more then 55 different platforms. Pajitnov always expected game sales to be strong. However, on reaching this milestone, he did comment “But I didn’t expect it to be such a long living (intellectual property). I am really amazed and pleased by this fact.”

As to how much revenue Tetris has made for the current right holders of this game EA Mobile and Blue Planet Software, we’re not sure because they haven’t come out with any official numbers. However, it’s believed the revenue has been on par with that made by the top grossing film of all time Titanic ($1.8 billion dollars).
