The official launch of the Apple iPad began on April 3rd and just 28 days later, Apple [AAPL] has confirmed that they have sold in excess of one million iPads. The official 1 millionth unit is believed to have been sold this past Friday.
Steve Jobs had said that the iPad would be a revolutionary product and he really wasn’t off the mark with this comment. To put these sales figures into perspective, it took iPhone 74 days to reach the 1 million mark, more then twice the time required by the iPad to reach this goal.
Along with this news, Apple has also confirmed that in excess of 12 million apps have been downloaded through the app store and an additional 1.5 million ebooks have been downloaded through iBookstore, Apple’s ePub sales and delivery system.
The numbers speak for themselves in terms of the success of the Apple iPad and it’s unlikely that the growth of this product will slow down any time soon considering that demand currently exceeds supply and later this month, international sales will open.
