The Apple iPhone 4 launched on Thursday, June 24th and through the first three days post launch, a total of 1.7 million handsets were sold, making it the “most successful” launch of an Apple product to date.
According to estimates put out by Bloomberg, Apple was predicted to have sold 1 million devices on its inaugural day itself, but this number could not be corroborated as Apple did not release sales figures for each individual day. We now know according to this mornings press release that the new iPhone has been the Cupertino company’s most successful launch and to put the numbers into perspective, Apple required 28 days to sell 1 million iPad tablets and 80 days to reach the 3 million mark.
CEO Steve Jobs was also apologetic to “all those customers” that had to be turned away because of insufficient supply. No further details were offered regarding the antenna issue.
