It’s an understatement to say that StarCraft II is a hit, having just sold over 1.5 million copies in two days. To put this feat into perspective, the original game took a full year to reach the same milestone that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty did. That’s pretty impressive.
For those that want an even further breakdown of the numbers, 1 million copies were sold in just the first 24 hours after release. By doing so, StarCraft II has earned the title of being the best selling launch title for the personal computer in 2010 and it is also the fastest selling real-time strategy game on record. On a longer time scale, the original StarCraft game saw roughly a million copies sold per year, or 11 million copies over 12 years. If sales of StarCraft II remain as strong as they are, it is being projected to reach similar numbers as the original over the next year or two.
